Dragonfly

Verano

Summer

I have always liked dragonflies, they always seemed so magical. When I was a child I only ever saw them when I went on bush walks, and they always mesmerized me, with their gentle buzzing and hovering. They seemed to exist just to be beautiful. I spent the other weekend at Dan’s parents’ place. I was sitting outside by the pool looking out at the garden when I noticed that each bamboo rod in the garden had a dragonfly sitting atop.

I got right up close to this one, it flew off a short distance when I first planted my feet but then gracefully drifted back. It swiveled its head toward me when the camera first clicked and proceeded to watch me. I was surprised how calm it was, its wings flapping forward occasionally in the wind. Later when I went swimming there was a dragonfly floating in the pool, perhaps seduced by its sparkly blueness, I hoped it wasn't mine from earlier.
